L’aglio è l’elemento ideale per chi decide di avviare la coltivazione di un orto completamente bio. Questa pianta ha infatti una spiccata azione repellente nei confronti di molti insetti fitofagi soprattutto delle piante ornamentali e di quelle degli orti. L’aglio non rilascia nessun tipo di sostanza tossica su queste piante e sugli insetti utili (come le api), agisce esclusivamente sui parassiti.

Potete usare tranquillamente i bulbi di aglio che usate normalmente per cucinare, purchè sia biologico e non trattato. Quando i singoli spicchi inizieranno a germogliare, potete piantarli in un vaso interrandoli a 3/4 cm con il germoglio rivolto verso l'alto e distanziandoli di circa 8/10 cm l'uno dall'altro. Il terriccio deve essere ben drenato, quindi vi consiglio di mettere dei sassi sul fondo del vostro vaso (o del ghiaino, in modo che l'acqua in eccesso scivoli via); il vaso va sistemato in una parte mediamente soleggiata del vostro balcone, per esempio un'area che prende il sole solo al mattino. Siccome i fiori dell'aglio sono molto belli potete anche decidere di usare la pianta come ornalmento, viceversa se volete usare i bulbi per necessità di cucina, è meglio recidere le infiorescenze man mano che spuntano!!!
